As I mentioned, this song is so personal to me and every time I hear it, I am suddenly 21 yrs young again and I am scared, alone, tossed aside, but with bravery and conviction, I am faced with my very first "grown up" decision. I hope that I won't be too scrutinized for my words here.

Another line, "Unfriendly reasons, some blind Mother's need"- Selfish reasons made by a woman that is technically a "Mother" but she cannot see past the fear and inconvenience. Then, with "Sell me down the river," that could be from the perspective of both the man and the unborn fetus/child/baby, (whatever you consider it). She makes the decisions, he says, "Okay, cool, whatever YOU want." I am not a man, but I know from personal experience that my ex certainly felt this way. Later, "What we wanted is what she wanted," says a lot about the author's "place" in his relationship with a woman. It is a woman's choice without any consideration for how the man may feel about the situation. He really had no choice in the matter, so he may as well "want" it because his opinion counts for shit. Regardless, he is complacent in that feeling and that could surely create strong feelings of bitterness and conflict. "What I wanted is what she wanted" - whatever his lady love wanted to do, he "wanted" the same because he loved her and only wanted her to be happy. So, "what I wanted is what I wanted" could mean that, from the man's perspective, he wanted a child with this woman that he loved. Maybe when a couple is in love and in that moment, that thought is in their mind or perhaps it is purely natural and biological.
